ExifTool
The reference command-line tool for reading, writing and stripping metadata (EXIF, IPTC, XMP, GPS, maker notes) in images, video, audio and documents. Supports hundreds of formats.
field note
`exiftool -a -G1 -s file.jpg` dumps every tag grouped by source. Most social platforms strip EXIF, so originals obtained by email, cloud drives or forum attachments are where the GPS data survives.
